Professional Experience
§ asm33
Founder and Software Developer
Mar 2020–Present
asm33 is a software consulting firm which works with financial services firms and provides process automation tools, significantly reducing the time spent on administration work for our B2B customers. Successful projects are released publicly as SaaS tools, such as:
-
batch2sepa, a tool that integrates with Xero to enable bookkeepers to create SEPA-compliant pain.001 and .008 files for batch payments and direct debit requests directly from their bookkeeping administrations. We were listed on the Xero marketplace for the first time.
Currently serving 150+ companies across 10 countries throughout the EU, processing over 5,200 transactions per month.
Redis + Flask with Python for backend. -
Payrollmate, a scheduler to manage payroll entries in bulk, synchronising Xero with Nmbrs. Payroll journal entries generated by Nmbrs are filed automatically through a direct connection between Nmbrs and Xero. Especially useful for companies managing the bookkeeping for multiple subsidiaries or clients. We were listed on the Xero marketplace for the second time.
Redis + Flask + Zeep (SOAP API client) with Python for backend. -
samba.link, which performs file conversions for various bank statement formats and can export the results or upload them into Xero and Exact Online, one of the biggest cloud accounting providers in the Netherlands. It operates over email, simplifying the conversion workflow.
Currently serving over 50 companies in the Netherlands.
SQLite (via SQLAlchemy) + Flask with Python for backend. Selenium for browser automation. -
Developed a payment integration module with Stripe to collect fees for our different apps under one platform, and fully automating invoicing and VAT and EC-sales list compliance.
It exposes an API that allows our tools to process payments and record usage metrics with minimal logic in their architecture.
The module architecture also allows white-labelling the user interface based on which application is connecting to the module, unifying the logic and reducing redundancies in deploying separately for each app.
SQLite + Flask with Python for backend. -
Developed several commissioned projects with Python, Rust, and Go to securely integrate multiple API data sources and ELT/ETL systems, extend functionality to client tooling, and improve performance of existing systems.
§ Novera (formerly CCOUNT)
Valuation Analyst (Part-time)
Jun 2022–Present
Collaborating with various private equity and tax advisory firms to prepare valuations for tech, bio-tech, and family businesses.
- Developed quantitative parts of various company, share class, and intellectual property valuation products
- Assisted in substantiating these valuations and similar credit risk assessment calculations to the Belastingdienst (Dutch Tax and Customs Administration)
- Delivered 50+ valuation analyses for successful tax ruling requests to the Belastingdienst
- Used models ranging from complex discounted cash flow setups to scenario analyses to money multiple calculations
Financial Consultant
Sep 2019–Jul 2022 (2 years and 11 months)
- Managed financial services for several tech-oriented start-ups and providing equity structuring, valuations, and fiscal advice.
- Supported several start- and scale-ups through their funding rounds and acquisition processes.
Junior Financial Consultant
Jun 2018–Aug 2019 (1 year and 3 months, part-time alongside MSc studies)
- Used online accounting tools and learned about Dutch tax accounting rules and handled bookkeeping and corporate finance tasks.
- Managed general IT systems and used Microsoft Azure services to set up internal- and freelancer-use VM architectures to further develop CCOUNT’s tech focused approach, and optimise our finance workflows.
§ University of Amsterdam
Teaching Assistant
May 2018
- Supervised the academic skills part of the second-year International Money course, also involving the grading for the students’ individual presentations on the subject material.
Teacher
Sep 2017–Jan 2018 (5 months)
Course instructor for more than one hundred and fifty students over the course of the entire first semester.
- Taught the first-year Economics and Business Economics and Business Administration course Principles 2, concerning academic writing in English and relevant research-related skills.
Projects
§ electrobillion
Lead Developer
Apr 2024–Present
electrobillion is an educational power grid simulation where players manage power infrastructure for a growing island micronation. As the local grid operator, players construct various energy sources, wire transmission infrastructure, and balance supply and demand while the city grows autonomously.
Now available on Steam (Windows, Linux, Mac) and Apple App Store (iOS).
- Designed educational gameplay mechanics around power grid management, energy transition challenges, and infrastructure planning
- Implemented merit order dispatch algorithms and dynamic supply/demand curve modelling for real-time electricity market simulation
- Built a two-layer graph topology representing transmission and distribution networks with pathfinding algorithms for optimal cable routing in world-space
- Developed real-time order book system for electricity distribution with multiple pricing algorithms
- Implemented parallelized computation pipeline for simultaneous market settlement and power distribution calculations
- Achieved stable simulation of emergent system behaviors including cascading failures, storage/balancing trade-offs, and growth sustainability constraints
- Developed with Rust using wgpu-rs (WebGPU) and skia-safe (Skia) for native cross-platform performance, and wasm-bindgen for web platform support
§ Maginet
Lead Developer
Feb 2023–Oct 2023
Maginet is a turn-based strategy game where two guilds of mages battle each other, playable locally or online across PC and mobile platforms.
- Developed entirely with Rust and wasm-bindgen for HTML5 platform support
- Implemented online multiplayer using HTTP polling, optimized for turn-based gameplay
- Released on itch.io and personal domain with synchronized versions
- Open-sourced on GitHub with comprehensive technical documentation
Education and Training
§ University of Amsterdam
Master of Science (MSc) in Finance (Quantitative Finance)
2018–2019
8.5 GPA cum laude, and 8.5 for MSc thesis “Jumping into dynamism – An alternative approach to the timing of portfolio rebalancing strategies,” which extends my BSc thesis subject by using the recent advancements in the field of signal processing and machine learning.
- By predicting 10-day volatility spikes, utilising a combination of GARCH and Pruned Exact Linear Time (PELT) methods, I was able to increase the utility of passive portfolio rebalancing. The result was a highly significant and substantial increase in portfolio returns compared to the well-known periodic 1/N model.
- Used Python for collecting and processing more than 20 GBs of procedurally generated time-series data for financial performance, simulating portfolios, statistical analysis, and visualisation of processes and results. Created a novel graph type to demonstrate the evolution of portfolios and their performance metrics over time.
Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Economics and Business (Economics and Finance)
2015–2018
7.5 GPA, and 8.5 for BSc thesis “Passive stock portfolio optimisation through re-investment strategies on return series’ variance changes,” focusing on the time frames over which the statistical moments used in multi-objective portfolio optimisation techniques.
- Used Python and associated data analysis libraries to process data and execute the strategies, and Stata to perform the final descriptions.
Volunteer Experience
§ Rostra Economica
Editor-in-Chief
Jan 2018–Aug 2018 (8 months)
Rostra Economica is the student magazine of the Faculty of Economics and Business at the UvA, operating for 70 years to date. As the editor-in-chief, I helped facilitate a better environment and create a stronger organisational structure for the magazine in order to increase editor commitment and participation
- We revitalised the brand image of Rostra Economica in the student body and ended up increasing our website’s active users and sessions by 22% and 27% respectively.
- After a grand 65th anniversary lustrum edition, we ended up distributing 2,000 copies of our magazine to the students of not on ours, but also other faculties.
- We managed the one of the most diverse student committees on campus, and successfully executed marketing campaigns, professionalisation efforts, and social events for the magazine.
- Handled the organisational matters and general communications for the magazine throughout this period.
- Scheduling meetings, taking the minutes, and issuing reservations were the most common tasks.
- Designed and executed the layout of the two paper editions that were published with InDesign, still used today!
